Bargaining Update #1 handout

Your team is committed to improving the learning environment for students and the working conditions for teachers in Lennox.  We recognize the hard work and sacrifices we’ve made in the past, as well as the need to empower teachers to act as agents of progressive change in our schools.  We believe our proposals will help meet the needs of teachers and assist the district in this new era of the Common Core.  We will be holding two Q&A sessions to answer any questions: Thursday, May 30th, 3:30 pm at Moffett Elementary and Monday, June 3rd, 3:30 pm at LMS Library.

Bargaining Summary

We are seeking to maintain the current 22-check pay cycle next year, with the first check for next year being issued on August 20, 2013.  We also want this language to be a permanent part of the contract rather than an MOU that will expire and revert to the current 10-month, one check per month language

Article 6.1: Compensation and Benefits (Pay-Cycle)

Current Contract,

Article 6.1

Teachers will be paid on a 10-month system, twice a month, for a total of 20 checks during the 2012-2013 school year.  Unit members will be paid on a 10-month system, once a month, for a total of 10 checks beginning in the 2013-2014 school year.

Current MOU,

Article 6.1

(expires June 30, 2014)

Unit members shall be paid twice monthly on an eleven (11) month pay cycle, for a total of 22 checks during the 2012-2013 fiscal year, beginning with the first paycheck on August 20, 2012.

Unit members shall be paid once monthly on an eleven (11) month pay cycle, for a total of 11 checks during the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

LTA Proposal,

Article 6.1

(permanent language)

Unit members will be paid on an 11-month system, twice a month, for a total of 22 checks beginning in the 2013-2014 school year.

We are seeking permanent language to replace the current contract language giving the district the right to 2½ hours of meetings after 3:15 per week.  We would retain the current Wednesday minimum day structure, but would swap the 5 hours/month of meeting time after 3:15 with the 5 hours/month on Wednesdays between 2:00-3:15, meaning that all meetings and training would end by 3:15 and all time after 3:15 would be teacher discretionary time.  At LMSTA we would limit meetings to 1 hour/week.
