Good News for the New Year!

Dear Friends and Colleagues-

Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope your vacation time was wonderful, restful, and that your holiday time with family and friends was the best ever.

First of all, there is really good news. The California Department of Education has just notified LSD that the two waivers, for LMS and Jefferson, will be granted next week when the CDE meets. This is very happy news! Since the waivers will be granted, there will be no loss of any teacher jobs due to loss of QEIA / CSR. Our students in the QEIA schools will continue to have the benefit of more teacher attention, small class sizes. LSD can continue to advertize that we have the smallest class sizes in LA County, for a public school district.

LTA was prepared to go up to Sacramento, to the CDE meeting, with Dr. Navarro and Brian Johnson from LSD, and a parent and one student, to plead for our waivers to be granted. We have meanwhile been working behind the scenes to influence the CDE Board members that we know on our behalf. We just got the notification that the trip will be unnecessary. What a nice way to start the new year.

Thanks for all your support!

Julie Smith, LTA President
